Liam’s Visit to Japan:

Did you know that one of Amelia Elementary’s 4th grade student’s, Liam, visited Japan earlier in the school year.  I wanted to share a few of his photos that I thought might interest you.  One is of a shopping mall and another is of a McDonalds.  Wow, how are these different from what we see in Eastgate, Ohio?  Thank you Liam for letting me share with our AE students.  What an experience!

Scholastic Book Fair Collections for Needy Students:

Starting tomorrow through April 12, we will be collecting change for our spring book fair next month April 15-19.  The change will be added up and some lucky students will win money to spend at the upcoming book fair.  There will be buckets for each grade level on the table by the cafeteria.  The grade level that collects the most change will win a pajama day and 15 min of extra recess!  So start bringing in that change and let the fun begin!!

5th Grade Camp Info:

The fifth grade students will be leaving for Camp Kern Tuesday, March 26.  The Camp Kern experience is three days and two nights of outdoor education.  Students stay in cabins and will participate in a variety of hands on learning experiences covering many science and history topics.  These activities cover Pioneer Life, Native Americans, Ecology, Survival Skills, Team Building, and much, much more!

Reminders for 5th Grade Parents:

  • Camp gear may be dropped off Monday afternoon between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. or Tuesday morning between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m..  STUDENTS CAN NOT BRING CAMP GEAR TO SCHOOL ON THE BUS!  Please remember to park in a parking spot if you will be coming in with your child to avoid blocking traffic during drop off time.
  • Please watch the weather closely to ensure your child has appropriate clothing.  As you know the weather has been unpredictable and we are outside rain, snow, or sunshine!  Make sure your child’s name is on EVERYTHING including the outside of their bag!  Students can pack in large duffel bags or garbage backs, as these are easiest to transport on the bus.  Please place your child’s bag/gear in the cafeteria next to their homeroom teacher’s name – signs will be posted.
  • If your child will be taking medications during camp please make sure they are turned in to the Health Clinic no later than Monday afternoon.  You must have the authorization form signed by a doctor and medications must be in the original container.  Contact your child’s teacher with questions.
  • Students are NOT permitted to bring electronic devices (cell phones), food, or money.  All adults will have a cell phone if your child needs to call home at any time.

If you have any questions about the Camp Kern trip, please contact your child’s teacher.  We’re looking forward to a great trip!

Did you know that March 14 is Pi Day… a sacred celebration in which radius and circumference lovers rejoice over circular snacks and calculating fun. Mrs. Evan’s 5th grade students diligently measured items to determine for pi— which is approximately 3.14159.
I believe the Moon Pies were a hit! Happy Pi Day to you.

3rd Grade Architects:

3rd grade students worked on 2 & 3 D architecture designs with retired art teacher and published illustrator, Mrs. Kern. Students discussed Frank Lloyd Wright and M.C. Escher who were famous architects. What fun!

Check out the fun designs:
