Tiger Bites- Week of March 19th:


What an amazing and beautiful morning!  It looks like spring is here… the students are starting to get “itchy” with spring fever. There are several items that I would like to bring to your attention this week:

Kindergarten Schedule:  Tuesday/Thursday kindergarten students will be attending school on Friday of this week.

Book Fair Volunteers:  The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school April 16-20th.  The exciting theme for our spring 2012 Book Fair is Book Fair Luau: It’s a Reading Celebration!  We need volunteers to help put on a one-of-a-kind Book Fair.  We hope you will share your talents and join us as we bring this memorable reading celebration to our school.  If you have some time to help us plan or conduct our next Book Fair, please email at leannsmith@fuse.net  in order to volunteer for one of the following areas:

  • Setting up the Fair
  • Helping shoppers at the Fair
  • Cashiering
  • Packing up the fair

Teacher Award:  Congratulations to Mr. MacFarland who received Honorable Mention from a nomination received from his students this school year.  He will be honored on Saturday, March 31th by the Katie Haumesser Foundation.  Congratulations Mr. MacFarland for being recognized for the wonderful work that you do each day for Amelia’s students!

Mad Cap Productions:  Last Friday, students in grades pre, KDG, 1 and 2nd, were treated to a program put on by Mad Cap Productions.  This Thursday, the rest of the student body will enjoy the same performance of Jack and the Gentle Giant.  Much thanks to Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Burgess, and the PTA for bringing this opportunity to our students.

Mrs. Moorehead’s 3rd Grade Can Food Drive:


Mrs. Moorehead’s 3rd grade class collected can goods for the local food pantry.  The following are student written explanations of the project. ENJOY!

  • The reason that we collected cans was to help the hungry.  It was important to help the hungry because it is near Christmas and not a lot of people have wealth. We went over our goal because we wanted to give more than receive. (Written by Emily, Andrew, Sam and Aurora)
  • It was a good thing that we helped the hungry. We did this so people will that we are nice and forgiving people.  It made us feel special.  We gave lots of food to them and we gave drinks too.  We gave people cans of food because we will be nice to all of the hungry people to help them feel better.  (Written by Josh, Gabbriella, Haley and Ryan)
  • We did this because we really care about the hungry and they need food to survive.  They are really poor because they do not have any money.  We think they appreciate it because they are really hungry.  We hope you enjoy your meal.  (Written by Logan, Madison, Bradley and Mackenzie)
  • We did this for the hungry ones and to save the hungry people.  The people who do not have money can buy this for free!  We brought 85 can goods from our grandparents and ourselves.  We reached our goal of more than 50 can goods.  P.S. We are still in need of volunteers for the Fall Festival! Spots are still available for games, food and the Trick-or-Treat Trail next Friday, October 21st from 6:30-8:30.

3rd Grade: Bubbles
4th Grade: Crayons or Washable Markers
5th Grade: Halloween Pencils
 
Class winners will be announced the week of October 24th.
 

Walk-a-thon Fun:

This year, the PTA is looking for volunteers to work lunch and recess duty on May 6 when the great teachers at AE have their appreciation luncheon at the end of Teacher Appreciation Week.  If any of you would be interesting in helping out that day either for lunch, recess or both, please let me know.  Below is the schedule of lunch/recess.  If you want to help out, please email chrissygillespie@aol.com with your availability… you will need to be fingerprinted to be able to volunteer for this event. Thanks so much!

Grandparent’s Night of Treats


Join Us on Thursday, April 7, 2011 for a night of memories with Grandparents

Price is only $4.00 per person, including the student.  That price includes dessert, drinks and a photo taken with your grandparents.  Please complete the form sent home in this week’s Wednesday folder and return by Thursday, March 31st.  There will be NO reservations accepted after this date.

Mrs. Walker’s Blog Bits- January 24th:


Wow, it is hard to believe that we are entering the last full week in January as well as the 3rd quarter!  This school year seems to be flying by.  Last week was a messy one.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and let us have no more interruptions.  Things are running along pretty smoothly here at Amelia.  Just wanted to pass along that we have been seeing more of the stomach flu virus, fever and sore throat going around.  So please just remind your little ones to be on top of things with the hand washing and try to get lots of rest!

I am very happy to announce that Mr. MacFarland is a DADDY!  His twin daughters were born on Friday.  Please welcome Elsie Rose weighing in at 5 pounds 6 ounces and her sister, Alice Louise, at 4 pounds 11 ounces to the Amelia Elementary family.  The girls and Mrs. MacFarland are doing wonderfully!
