Mrs. Walker’s Tiger Bites for the Week of April 30th:

We welcome May during our 33rd week of school! If the weather forecast is correct, we will also welcome back some warmer temperatures.

OAA Testing:  The next week’s OAA testing schedule is listed below.  Remember that it is very important that students are in school on scheduled testing dates.  I appreciate how hard that students and parents have worked to have students to school and on time during last week’s testing.  Our attendance was wonderful!

Flying Pig Info:   PTA will pick up all registration packets for the Flying Pig Kids Marathon on Monday, April 30 and will distribute them to your child on Wednesday, May 2.   We ask that all registered AE students meet at the entrance to Great American Ballpark no later than 11:30. Our group has been assigned white T-shirts, so please look for those. A course map will be distributed on Wednesday of next week, but will also be included in your packet. Each school will be assigned a location and “wave” start. That will be included in your packet as well. The start will begin at Noon and will continue in 5-minute start “waves”. Kids will go through finishers “chutes” for flow and safety. Group reunion area will be near the big Paddle Wheel monument on Mehring Way.  Bring your cameras… this would be a WONDERFUL event!

3rd Grade OAA- Wednesday, October 5th:

September 29, 2011

Dear Parents of Third Graders,

On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, all West Clermont 3rd graders will take the Reading Ohio Achievement Assessment (OAA).  This test is a requirement from the State of Ohio.  Later in the spring, the 3rd graders will take another version of the same test.  We will use the results of the fall testing to help us adjust instruction to meet student needs before taking the second test in the spring.

We will begin testing in the morning so it is very important that students be at school on time.  Once a test has started, we cannot allow children to enter the classroom because the tests are timed.  There is a short window of time for make-up testing for children who are absent, but we have found that students perform better if they take the test with their teachers and classmates.

Also, remember to make sure your children get plenty of sleep the night before testing and give them a nutritious, well-balanced breakfast.

Please try to arrange appointments around the testing date.  If children are sick, as always, report absences on our attendance line at 943-3804.  A note (with specific information as to the reason for absence) from the doctor or parent will be necessary to verify the absence.

Talk with your child about the upcoming tests. As in all tests, discuss that it is important to do your best, and not to worry.  Worry can interfere with success.  The tests are important but only one measure of a child’s overall talents.

Please encourage your child to do his/her best.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me or your child’s teacher.

 Respectfully,

 Stephanie N. Walker

Mrs. Walkers Tiger Bites- Week of September 26th:

I am an Amelia Tiger!

Another wonderful week has gone by at Amelia Elementary.  It is always exciting to visit classrooms in order to interact with students and their learning.

  • Mrs. Smith’s KDG Class focused upon aReading Street lesson about the weekly concept of “How do we work and play together?”  Students discussed ways that they cooperate with others while at school.  Additionally, students used the interactive smart board in order to graph how they came to school that morning which reinforced the story selection for the week.
  • Mr. MacFarland’s 4th grade class continued the theme focusing on observations in science.  Students began an experiment that will continue over several days.  Students had a “grow animal” placed in a water bottle.  Students wrote observations in their science journal.  They will continue to observe the changes over a period of time.
  • Mrs. Marcotte’s 4th grade class also worked upon a science lesson focusing on observations.  Students observed ice cubes with different colored food coloring melting.  Students made and documented observations every five minutes.  Do you have a hypothesis regarding the results?

Kindergarten Schedule:  Tuesday/Thursday kindergarten students will attend school on Friday, September 30th.

3rd Grade Reading Ohio Achievement Assessment:  Mark your calendar:  3rd grade students will be taking the reading OAA assessment on Wednesday, October 5th.  It is very important that all students are in attendance on this date.

 Upcoming Dates:

  • Wednesday, September 28th:  Mrs. Stemmer’s Birthday
  • Friday, September 30th:  T/TH Kindergarten Students Attend School
  • Week of October 3rd:  5th grade students take SAT/OLSAT assessments
  • Wednesday, October 5th:  3rd Grade Reading OAA
  • Friday, October 7th:  Interim Reports Sent Home with Students
  • Friday, October 21st:  NO SCHOOL- Teacher In-service Day

4th and 5th Grade OAA Tuesday:

This is a reminder that 4th grade students will be taking the math OAA and 5th grade will be taking the science OAA on Tuesday.  It is very important that ALL students are present at school in order to complete testing.  Thank you for being supportive!

Mrs. Walker’s Tiger Bites- Week of May 2nd:

Finally a day without rain.  I hope that you have enjoyed it as much as my family and I did.

It is hard to believe that we only have 24 days left of the school year.  It seems like yesterday when we opened our doors for the first time inviting our students, families and community into our beautiful building.  What an exciting year it has been!

OAA Assessments Continue:  Students in 4th grade will complete the math OAA while 5th grade students complete the science portion on Tuesday, May 3rd.  Please remember that being in attendance on testing days is very important.

Teacher Appreciation Week:    The PTA has asked me to remind all students that this next week will be teacher appreciation week.  Information regarding scheduled activities were sent our previously but the following summarizes what you can do in order to show your appreciation.  Feel free to participate in recognizing your favorite teachers.

  • Monday:  Give your teacher a high-five or a hug.
  • Tuesday:  Write a thank-you note telling your teacher why he or she is great.
  • Wednesday:  Write an acrostic poem/draw a picture.
  • Thursday:  Give your teacher a compliment.
  • Friday:  Bring a treat for the Teacher’s Appreciation Lunch

Election Day:  Just a reminder that Tuesday, May 3rd is Election Day.  This is a great “teachable moment” for your child.  Consider discussing the importance of voting  to your child and bring them with you (before/after school) to observe you and community members perform their civic duty.
