Mrs. Walker’s Tiger Bites for the Week of April 30th:

We welcome May during our 33rd week of school! If the weather forecast is correct, we will also welcome back some warmer temperatures.

OAA Testing:  The next week’s OAA testing schedule is listed below.  Remember that it is very important that students are in school on scheduled testing dates.  I appreciate how hard that students and parents have worked to have students to school and on time during last week’s testing.  Our attendance was wonderful!

Flying Pig Info:   PTA will pick up all registration packets for the Flying Pig Kids Marathon on Monday, April 30 and will distribute them to your child on Wednesday, May 2.   We ask that all registered AE students meet at the entrance to Great American Ballpark no later than 11:30. Our group has been assigned white T-shirts, so please look for those. A course map will be distributed on Wednesday of next week, but will also be included in your packet. Each school will be assigned a location and “wave” start. That will be included in your packet as well. The start will begin at Noon and will continue in 5-minute start “waves”. Kids will go through finishers “chutes” for flow and safety. Group reunion area will be near the big Paddle Wheel monument on Mehring Way.  Bring your cameras… this would be a WONDERFUL event!

FLYING PIG INFORMATION

Many of you have had questions about late registration, packet pick up, and more. Below are some of our FAQs:

Frequently asked questions:

Can I still sign up for the Final Mile on May 5th? If you still want to sign up, you will need to go to the expo on FRIDAY MAY 4th from noon to 7pm at the Duke Energy Convention Center. Online registration closed April 20th. The registration folks will be at the expo and can take care of you there.  Your child can still include their group’s name on the registration form, but we cannot guarantee they will receive the same color shirt as the rest of the group.

When and where is group packet pickup? PTA will pick up all registration packets on Monday, April 30 and will distribute them to your child on Wednesday, May 2.

Will we be able to register on site at the race? NO for the 26th Mile. But YES, for the 5k, and YES for the Piglet fun runs for the little ones. THE 26th Mile has over 100 groups to organize this year. It is meant to be the end of the hard work of tallying all those miles. We discourage race day sign up for those who just want to join in at the last minute, and recommend that they direct their attention to the Piglet or 5k options.

Where should our group go race morning? We ask that all registered AE students meet at the entrance to Great American Ballpark no later than 11:30. Our group has been assigned white T-shirts, so please look for those.  A course map will be distributed on Wednesday of next week, but will also be included in your packet. Each school will be assigned a location and “wave” start.  That will be included in your packet as well. The start will begin at Noon and will continue in 5-minute start “waves”.  Kids will go through finishers “chutes” for flow and safety.  Group reunion area will be near the big Paddle Wheel monument on Mehring Way.

Where can we park? A parking guide will be sent home next week. A guide is also availabe on the Flying Pig Website.

Can parents run/walk with their child? Many parents and adults have registered and we thank you. We hope that each group will have adults to stay with the children at all times, since we expect a large crowd. If this means that unregistered adults need to be on the course without a race bib, we would rather the children be safe, than scared. The medals and goodies are for those who are registered.

Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon:

This morning, students in Kindergarten through 5th grade were excited to learn about the 2012 Flying Pig Kids’Marathon.  In collaboration with PTA, I have decided to bring this opportunity into Amelia in order to promote fitness, fun and healthy food choices.

The goal is to walk, jog or run the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles) in the months leading up to the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon in May.  Each student will receive a “HOG LOG” to be used to track each mile completed towards the marathon goal.  Miles will be done at school during recess or can be done with family and/or friends.  Always pick a safe place and never go out alone.

Students can complete the marathon distance by completing the final mile as part of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon26th-Mile Event on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  Experience the thrill of victory by crossing over the actual Flying Pig Marathon finish line.  All registered participants ($10.00 registration fee) will receive a finisher’s medal and a t-shirt for a job well done.
