 Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon

Amelia Elementary is participating in the Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon again this year! Together with the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon, we would like to promote childhood fitness, family fun, and a lifetime marathon of healthy habits. This program is designed for children ages 5-12 years old along with their fitness buddies (parents, teachers, leaders, mentors). IT IS NOT A RACE! On January 9th, students will receive their information letter, hog log and registration form. Students will have the opportunity to walk during recess to accumulate miles in their “Hog Log”. Kids’ Marathoners have an exciting opportunity to be part of the real Flying Pig Marathon by finishing their 26th marathon mile on Saturday, May 4, 2012 during the Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon Final Mile event at Cincinnati’s Riverfront. The kids will cover their last mile on the actual Flying Pig Marathon course and cross the real “Finish Swine.” They get a finishers shirt, a marathon medal and all the goodies of the finish celebration ($10 registration; scholarships available).  Holiday Shop

This year’s Holiday Shop was a great success! We hope all the students had a wonderful time shopping for friends and family. AE PTA earned $769.72. With these funds, we were able to provide food for 10 needy AE families during the Holidays! Thanks to our volunteers for helping make the shop run so smoothly: Leann Smith, Tricia Louis, Donella Watkins, Heather Magdich, Rhonda Royster, Rebecca Shenefelt, Theresa Hammons, Trina Hawthorne, Brandy Dodson, Nicole Duncan, Tamara Smack, Theresa Hammons, Robyn Cahall, Heather Bowling, Beth Burcham and Jennifer Lowry.

 Breakfast with Santa

Thanks to all our families for visiting with Santa this year! We hope all the students had a great time writing letters to Santa. We know we had a great time seeing the student’s faces light up while writing them and telling their Christmas wishes to Santa! As always, a special thanks to our volunteers: Robyn Cahall, Emily Hervey, Jennifer Lowry, Mrs. Ary, Mrs. Burnheimer and Mrs Wolff. We would also like to thank our local business for their generous donations: Amelia Walmart, Kroger, Meijer, Starbucks, Marcella’s Bakery, McDonald’s and the Amelia Florist.

 Food Pantry Donations

Thanks to all of our parents, students and staff for your generous donations during the Holidays! We filled the stage and each class will be having a Popsicle party!

Be A Library Star!
Amelia Elementary and the Amelia Public Library are working together to encourage students to visit the library on a regular basis. We have started a collaborative program in which students log hours spent at the library for checking out books, doing homework or reading. The program will run from November 1 through April 2012. The student that logs the most hours per grade will receive a prize at the end of the school year. We encourage you to take your child to the library on a regular basis to participate in this program. Forms are available at the Amelia Library, just ask! The forms are kept at the library during the program.

 Market Day

Market Day orders are available for pick-up this Thursday, 1/10 from 3:30-4:30 at Amelia Elementary. Market Day is a great way to feed your family AND support your school! This year’s Market Day goal is $1,500. With these funds, we plan to purchase Student Planners for grades 3-5 and plastic “Nikki Folders” for grades K-2.

 Box Tops Winners 2012

Update on our Box Top Class winners… September: Mrs. Ary; October and November: Mrs. Wells. These classes earned a Popsicle party! Be sure to keep clipping your Box Tops! We were able to bring COSi on Wheels to AE this year using the money we earned from Box Tops. Let’s keep it going for next year as well!


Recycling Benefits 5th Graders
Do you recycle? Bring your paper recyclables to the AE recycling bin located at the rear of the building. The monies eared from our recycling goes toward our 5th grade trip to Camp Kern.
