Red Ribbon Week:

Red Ribbon Week brings millions of people together to raise awareness of the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Amelia Elementary is celebrating Red Ribbon Week:  Monday, October 22 – Friday, October 26.

We have many exciting things planned…

On Monday, 10/22, students will be signing drug-free pledges and writing a short essay about why it is important to stay drug-free. The top essays from each grade will be mailed to the President to read!

On Tuesday, 10/23, students will be attending an assembly presented by the Clermont County Sheriff’s Department. Students will learn about “stranger danger”, talk about drugs and sobriety and get a chance to see the “drug dog” in action!

On Friday, 10/26, students will receive Red Ribbon bracelets to remind them of their pledge to stay drug-free.

 CELEBRATE WITH US!

Monday, October 22: Kick-off to Red Ribbon Week – Wear Red!

Tuesday, October 23: “Follow Your Dreams, NOT Drugs” – Wear your PJs

Wednesday, October 24: “Put A Cap On Drugs” – Wear a Hat

Thursday, October 25: “Stomp Out Drugs” – Wear Boots

Friday, October 26: “Amelia Stands Together” – Wear your Blue & White Amelia Spiritwear

We can’t wait to see all the fun ideas!

OUR DRUG-FREE PLEDGE

I PLEDGE TO LEAD A DRUG-FREE LIFE. I WANT TO BE HEALTHY AND HAPPY. I WILL SAY NO TO HARMFUL DRUGS.I WILL HELP MY FRIENDS SAY NO.I PLEDGE TO STAND UP FOR WHAT I KNOW IS RIGHT.

Friday Night Football:

Looking for something to do on Friday night?  Amelia High School will be having their last home football game of the season.  It would be great to have a large turn-out in support of our team.  Students and families wear your Amelia Elementary spirit wear and cheer on our team.

I have just heard that the first 40 students wearing their school spirit wear will get a free student pass into the game.  Let’s go Amelia Barons!

Note to 5th Grade Parents:

October 11, 2012

 Dear Parents of 5th Graders,

Each year West Clermont School District is required by the State of Ohio to test students at certain grade levels for a variety of reasons.  This year, the district has decided to use the Stanford Achievement Test (SAT) and Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) to assess 5th grade students. The data obtained from testing are used to identify gifted children and to help schools and teachers adjust instruction in the classroom to meet the needs of students. The results also help us identify areas of strength and weaknesses for Amelia Elementary.

Testing will take place from October 15 to October 19. The schedule for testing varies because the length of each test varies from day to day. Therefore, it is important that students be in attendance the entire day.

We are hoping the following suggestions will help your child do his/her very best:

 1.  Get plenty of sleep.

2.  Eat a nutritious, well-balanced breakfast.

3.  Do not be absent or tardy, if at all possible.  Once a test has started, we cannot allow children to enter the classroom because the tests are timed and we cannot have interruptions once the test begins.  Make up tests are sometimes not as accurate as those taken with the group.  If your child is going to have to sign out early for an appointment, we would like to know that ahead of time so that they don’t begin the test and have to quit in the middle.

 4.  Mention the upcoming tests to your children, but try to ease their anxiety by encouraging         them to do their best!  The tests are important but only one measure of a child’s overall talents.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call.
