3rd Grade Reading OAA: (Letter home w/students on Wednesday)

September 24, 2012

 Dear Parents of Third Graders,

Wednesday, October 3, will be a very important day for your child.  This is the day that the Ohio Third Grade Reading Achievement Test will be administered for the first time.

Each child is allowed up to two and one half hours for this test, although it is assumed that most children will not need more than seventy-five minutes.  Teachers will schedule a break at some point during the test.

Your child has been well prepared for this so he/she knows what to expect. We are hoping the following suggestions will help your child do his/her very best:

  •  Get plenty of SLEEP.
  • Eat a nutritious, well-balanced BREAKFAST.
  • Do not be absent or tardy, if at all possible. Once a test has started we cannot allow children to enter the classroom because the tests are timed. Make up tests are sometimes not as accurate as those taken with the group.
  •  Parents are to call the attendance line if their child is absent on October 3, 2012.
  •  A note from a doctor or parent will be necessary to verify absence.
  •  We would like to try to avoid make-up tests.

If you wonder what advice you might give your child prior to the test, I’d say that taking their time and being very COMPLETE in their answers is a key to success.

Please encourage your child to do his/her best. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me.
