Mrs. Walker’s Tiger Bites- Week of May 31st:

I simply can not believe that this is the last week of the school year!

When I first became the principal of Amelia Elementary, our current 5th grade students were just starting their first grade school year.  How lucky I have been in order to work with such amazing boys and girls and to watch them grow into the wonderful students that they are today!  I am very proud of our graduating students and look forward to hearing of their successes during the years to come.

Farewell 5th Graders:

It’s time to say good-bye
Our road has come to an end.
You have many cherished memories
and many more new friends.

We’ve watched your child learn and grow
and change from day to day.
We hope that all the things we’ve done
Have helped in some small way.

So it’s with happy memories
We send them out our door,
With great hope and expectations
for what the future holds in store.

I would like to invite parents of 5th grade students to join us for the annual 5th grade “walk-of-fame”.  On Friday, June 3rd at 2:40, 5th grade students will take one last walk through the halls of Amelia Elementary.  Kindergarten through 4th grade students, teachers, staff and family members line the hall to clap and cheer in celebration of their successes.  It is an amazing 10 minutes… I have to warn everyone that this definitely is a “Kleenex Moment!”  🙂

Mr. Davis is Retiring!

I am excited to announce that Mr. Jeff Davis is retiring after a wonderful career at Amelia Elementary!  We are currently working on a project for him in honor of his retirement.  Please reply to this post with a fun story, favorite memory or well wishes for Mr. Davis.  I would love for current/former students, parents and colleagues to participate.  If you would rather email me with your response, feel free.

Thank you for your help!

2nd Grade Author Night:

The second graders at Amelia Elementary are authors! They have worked very hard writing, editing, revising, and illustrating their books.   The teachers at Amelia were awarded a Learning Links grant, which helped to pay for the publishing of each child’s book.  At Author Night, each second grade author had a seat at the Author’s Table, to sign the books and share them with a very large crowd of guests.   The books turned out wonderful, and best of all, the students got to have the experience of being a celebrated author.

Amelia Elementary Tigers Celebrate Reading
Amelia Elementary celebrated Ohio’s Right to Read Week, May 16th to May 20th. Classrooms celebrated the importance and joy of reading with many fun activities. Along with daily read alouds and free time for students to enjoy books, classrooms also “Teamed Up for Reading.”  Students read with partners and shared their favorite books with one another. Each classroom also had a “Celebrity Teacher” visit to read aloud. Many teachers took advantage of technology and used Storyline Online to have famous people like Betty White and Al Gore read aloud to their students. Students were especially excited to earn “Caught Reading” tickets and meet Mrs. Walker’s Reading Challenge. Caught Reading tickets were entered in a daily drawing to win great books and reading prizes.  Students who read each night for pleasure will be rewarded with an extra recess with Mrs. Walker. Many thanks to our Amelia Elementary PTA for donating reading prizes. Amelia Tigers love to READ!

Count Down to Summer:  We are officially into single digits… 9 days are left of the 2010-11 academic school year!

Walk-a-thon:  Many thanks are going out to all of our wonderful parents who volunteered to make the 2011 Walk-a-thon a huge success.  The weather cooperated and students had a wonderful time!!  From early indicators, it looks like the event was a profitable one for our PTA.  By supporting activities such as these, we can ensure that our students have wonderful assemblies, instructional materials, incentives, and other activities as needed.  Thank you for supporting our kids!

Summer Fun at the Amelia Public Library:

Dear Amelia Elementary parents:

My children attend A.E. too, and at a recent visit to our local library we signed them up for several fun and educational and FREE events.  It’s a bummer that the levy didn’t pass, but there are still some great resources for our children right in our own back yards.

Here are just a few FREE events that are available for elementary age students.  There are more events for younger kids, older kids and even adults.  Log on to their web-site or visit any Clermont County Library for more details about all programs.

This document was not created by the library.  I copied information that I thought all A.E. parents would like to have.  CALL THE LIBRARY to CONFIRM DATES AND TIMES and to find out which programs you need to SIGN UP FOR IN ADVANCE and which programs you are allowed to show up for with a reservation.

See you at the library!  A.E. Parent
