Accelerated Reader… What’s it all about?

Hello Parents! You may have heard your student talking about the Accelerated Reader Program, or AR as we often refer to it. This program has quizzes that your child can take on a school computer after they have finished reading an AR book. They earn points based on how many reading comprehension questions are answered correctly. These points are redeemed for prizes once a month in library. We also have an ice-cream party planned at the end of the year for students who reach the 50 point prize level. ( Kdg and first grade will be 25 points ) Prize levels start at 5 points and go up to 200 points. Not all books are AR books but we have over 5,000 titles to choose from. You can access a list of the AR books at the Amelia Public library and we are working on placing it on the school’s website. Many thanks to our wonderful PTA who provides the funds for the AR program. We couldn’t continue the program without their support. Feel free to send me an email or call with any questions you may have. Encourage you child to read every evening and let them see you reading for fun as well! Time spent reading together is priceless!
