Also, look in back-packs for report cards.  They will be coming home with students on Friday!

Students at Amelia are really moving!  Each classroom is graphing the miles walked between now and May.  Can you believe that Amelia students have walked a total of 279 miles?

Volunteers & Baked Goods Needed!

 The PTA is in need of volunteers and baked goods for the Valentine’s Dance on Friday, February 10 from 6:30-8:30 at Receptions in Eastgate.

The Northern Kentucky University Music Prep Department has created the Clermont County Youth Orchestra for West Clermont students in grades 7-12 who have a least one year experience playing a stringed instrument. Our West Clermont students rehearse on Monday evenings at Amelia High.

I have just gotten word that the program is expanding! In partnership with West Clermont, NKU’s Music Prep is now offering beginning strings instruction for students in grades 5-7 who have never played a stringed instrument before.

Parents of 5th grade students who are interested in this opportunity,  there will be a parent information night on January 23, 2012 from 5:15-6:15 at the Amelia High School band/orchestra room.

This is a great opportunity to get more information about the program, ask specific questions, have your child try instruments, get sized, and even place your rental order! Please bring your child to this meeting.

If you can’t attend Information Night, but would still like to enroll your child in the NKU Satellite Strings program, please contact them at (859) 572-PREP.

• Cost is $160 per semester (February – May) plus the cost of instrument rental and book
• Classes meet every Monday from 4:45–6:00pm in the Amelia HS band room
• Students will perform a spring concert and opportunities to continue instruction both during the summer and next year will be available!

Registration will be by appointment only, and will be held at the West Clermont administrative office located in theUnionTownshipCivicCenter at4350 Aicholtz Road. The kindergarten enrollment schedule for West Clermont Schools is as follows: 

• February 27-March 2 – Amelia Elementary and Holly Hill Elementary
• March 5-9 – Merwin Elementary and Brantner Elementary
• March 12-16 – Clough Pike Elementary and Willowville Elementary
• March 19-23 – Withamsville-Tobasco Elementary and Summerside Elementary
• March 26-30 – Make up week, all schools

This morning, students in Kindergarten through 5^th grade were excited to learn about the 2012 Flying Pig Kids’Marathon.  In collaboration with PTA, I have decided to bring this opportunity into Amelia in order to promote fitness, fun and healthy food choices.

The goal is to walk, jog or run the distance of a marathon (26.2 miles) in the months leading up to the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon in May.  Each student will receive a “HOG LOG” to be used to track each mile completed towards the marathon goal.  Miles will be done at school during recess or can be done with family and/or friends.  Always pick a safe place and never go out alone.

Students can complete the marathon distance by completing the final mile as part of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Kids’ Marathon26^th-Mile Event on Saturday, May 5, 2012.  Experience the thrill of victory by crossing over the actual Flying Pig Marathon finish line.  All registered participants ($10.00 registration fee) will receive a finisher’s medal and a t-shirt for a job well done.

Attendance:  I want to thank everyone for working hard to get students to school on time each morning.  As you know, attendance is a critical factor in any child’s school success.  Children should attend school every day, except in cases of illness or emergency.  It is impossible to replace the learning that happens on any school day with make-up work.  Regular attendance and promptness are good habits are good habits that are expected and appreciated at all levels of schooling and in the workplace.  For the second part of this school year, make school attendance a priority in your household.

Arrival & Dismissal:   Please check that your student has their book-bag and dismissal tag each morning.  This has been an issue for dismissal during the past week… I think everyone is still in vacation mode!  J  Also, I ask that everyone drives slowly and carefully on school driveways and side streets (Church and Chapel).  We have many students and families walking to and from school.  Please be cautious and safe.

There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 16^th in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Wow, what a wonderful birthday!  I wanted to let you know that I loved all of the birthday cards, letters and presents that you made for me.  My desk was covered by the end of the day.  I had many classes sing Happy Birthday and I think that I may have broken the world record for getting the most hugs in a single day.  I wanted to let you know that I consider myself to be the luckiest principal in the world to have such amazing and caring students!  Thank you for making my day extra special!
